Getting Started

View the Examples
Open and save each of the BookLog examples.  You will need to open Excel and then open the examples you just saved. Try out a few of the features of the BookLogs. Think about what you might add to your BookLog.

Determine BookLog Purpose
It is important that you have a reason for having a bookLog. What do you want to accomplish by using a BookLog with your students?

    My purpose is to allow students the opporuntity to reflect on their growth as a reader.

Define the Content
Think about the data you want to collect. Decide the data that will best provide you with the information you will need to see how a student is improving on their daily reading.

    Goal Area
    Title of Book and Author
    Genre of Book
    Number of Pages
    Date or Month When Read
    Total Books Read for the Month
    Total Books Read for the grading Period
    AR Scores
    Running Totals of Pages
    Overall AR Average

     Start Your BookLog
    1. Open Excel
    2. Save your blank page in a new folder. Name the folder “booklog” 
    Name the page “booklog”
    3. Now you are ready to start your log.

 

BookLog Models

In order to make some choices view the following two BookLog examples.
The following examples are Excel documents. They will open in Internet Explorer.

Example 1: (1.8 MB Excel)
Has area for monthly goals

Example 2: (1.8 MB Excel)
Includes area to record genre of book
