Teaching E-mail Skills

Have Weekly E-mail Assignments

Introducing E-mail:
Student need to learn your expectations for using E-mail in the classroom. I have a set standard of the way I want every student to write emails. I have my students the first two times E-mail me the message prior to sending it to their ePal.

    1. Include a greeting
    2. Write a polite message
    3. Include a closing and your name at the end
    4. Spell correctly, check for periods, and capital letters
    5. CC your teacher the message
    6. Include a proper subject line

Teaching E-mail skills:
Notice that each skill builds upon what is taught. Skills are repeated week to week to make sure they are practiced and learned. Students read and respond to E-mail during Silent Reading Time. Every effort to connect what is being learned in the classroom to the purpose for the e-mail.

Teaching students to use the friendly letter format is important to the E-mail process. I post a hand written poster in my classroom every week that has the weekly e-mail assignments.
