Grouping

How will I determine grouping for my students?

Size of groups:
Determines how many students will need access to the computer and then this dictates how many rotations on the computers you will need.

When sizing groups think about is important to have everyone to access the comptuers?

Is important for individiuals to have individual time to pratctic and explore?

It is okay to have some groups of 2, some of 3, and some of 4. I place numbers in groups when students have the teamwork skills necessary for larger groups.

Forming Groups
How do you place students with each other? Think about the following:

Who hasn’t been paired with who yet? I try to have all my students work with everyone throughout the year.

Technology Skills needed for the project

Placing technology skilled kids together. This allows the non-skilled students a chance to develop their own skills as they can’t sit back and wait for someone to take control

    Reading Levels
    Place readers with non reader
Lower readers with a close reader one level up from them
    High readers with High readers

    Leaders
Ofen it is good to place the leader kid with other leaders - they learn a lot more about teamwork. A Potenial leader paired with the helper student creates a nice working relationship

    Helpers
Place helpers with the difficult students but make note of this so that the helpers also on the next project aren’t stuck again with those students

    Difficult Students
Don’t be afraid to have the difficult students work on their own
