CLASSROOM CULTURE
The way in which a classroom is set up encourages teams. My students switch seats every week. We hold class meetings every Friday. And students work in an atmostshpere where they are expected to learners and teachers as well.  This is the way in a learnered centered classroom.

A Student’s thought on Teamwork

“Mrs. Hinshaw creates really cool opportunities for us to work in teams. She says we need to learn how to work in class with everyone.  I think we need to learn how to get along with everyone in the world. Teamwork is hard work. You have to listen to each other, agree on things, and share the work. You just can’t sit back. When working at the computer there are 2 types of jobs the feeders who give you information and the pilots who click the mouse and help direct the team where to go. You need both types of people to make a good team.”

“The goal of team work should be to work effectively with everyone in class.”

Teach to the Teamwork Essential Skills

Working as a Team…

I Listen to my teams’ ideas and use their ideas to help get information

I Question my team to help them figure out what to do and to extend their thinking

I Persuade my team by exchanging ideas, defending my ideas and trying to explain my thinking.

I Respect the opinions in my team. I offer encouragement and support for new ideas and efforts.

I Help my team by offering my assistance.

I Share my ideas and thinking. I share the jobs.

I Participate by contributing to the team assignment. I am actively involved with the work.
