What Makes A GOOD Site?

Relevant to the Curriculum
Select sites for relevance to curriculum and appropriateness to school setting. The sites selected should follow the guidelines for instructional materials contained in Board Policies

Description and link
Include brief description of the site or its intended use

Advertising
Link to sites without advertising if possible.  Note advertising with the following statement: Site contains advertising. Remember that sometimes the ads on a site change without warning.

Reading Level
Consider your reading level of students. Find sites that support various levels of reading.

Authenticity
Check sites for authenticity - make sure you know who is providing the information on the site

Navigation
Make sure the web page structure is clear and easy to navigate

Teachers should select sites which provide access by students to rich information resources.
Teachers need to help students develop appropriate skills to analyze and evaluate web sites and information found on websit

URLS...

URL means uniform resource locator.  It is the address of the web page

.com means it is a commercial site and may have ads

.edu means it is a higher ed. or k12 site

.gov means the page was created by a government department

.org means an organization created the pages
