Step 1: Setting the Curriculum Focus

When planning for integration one of the first things to detemine is what your students need to learn?

Teachers are responsible for identifying the academic focus for the lesson. This focus is based on the assessment and evaluation of previous learning and the teaching standards that need to be addressed.

    Curriculum Focus should include:
    subject area
    standards
    concepts
    skills and strategies

Think abouts:

What is it I want my students to learn - concepts?
What skills or strategies do will my students need to be successful?
What standards will I be addressing?

Now the challenge is to take what needs to be taught and select they way in which the technology can support or improve the learning.

In my class here is an example how I set the curriculum focus:

Reading
Standard:
Reading to comprehend
Concept: Locating Answers and Key Ideas
Strategies: Scanning for information and key words

Writing
Standard
: Write for a variey of purposes
Concept: 5 Paragraph essay
Strategies: Create Topic Supporting and Concluding Sentences

Math
Standard
: Using reasoning to solve problems
Concept: Comparing Data
Strategies: Deteming mean, median, and mode
