Technology standards are the reasons why I use technology in the classroom. The selection is based on what I need to
teach and what I want my students to accomplish.
Each standard selected supports what you want the learners to achieve through the use of technology. I use the
standards as a check to make sure that the technology is going to be used in the most powerful way.
My Integrated Technology Standards:
- Use technology to find information, build concepts, develop strategies and
practice skills
- Use technology to research, solve problems, and make decisions
- Use technology to collaborate and communicate with others
- Use technology to present ideas
- Use technology to reflect and set goals
- Use technology responsibly
Here are a few examples of how the technology standards connect to the learning.
Reading Example: Locating answers to questions, read for key idea Technology Standard: Use
technology to find information, build concepts, practice skills and strategies
Writing Example: - 5 paragraph essay, creating topic sentences, stating main idea Technology Standard: Use technology to present ideas
Social Studies Example: - cause of American Revolutionary War, independence, timelines, Technology Standard: Use technology to research, solve problems, and make decisions
Math Example: - comparing data, graphing, mean, median, mode Technology Stanard: Use
technology to find information, build concepts, practice skills and strategies
How to select Technology Standards
When selecting the specific standards think about the follow three things.
Balance: make sure you plan for all the standards through out the year Experience: determine
how much experience your students have had with the particular tool or activity Match: select the best standard to match your curriculum objectives
With the technology standards matched to the curriculum focus the next step is to select how to apply the use of
technology in the classroom.
