Using Editing Tools

WORD has some basic editing tools to help students with their conventions.

Download the Sample Story to practice the following. 

Word Count Tool -
Tells how many words, sentences, and paragraphs
1. Go to tools and click word count

Highlight Words
The highlighter tool is good for identify skills or concepts. Have students use the highlighter tool to find topic sentences, descriptive words, periods, captial letters.
To use the highlighter tool
1. Click on the tool
2. Select a color
3. Click and drag over the selected text

Track Changes - Allows the teacher and student to see what has changed in the writing since draft stage.
To turn on track changes
1. Click on Tools
2. Select Track Changes
3. Click highlight changes
4. Click in the box show changes while editing

Reading Level
This tool shows you the reading level at which the student is writing
To turn on reading level
1. Click on Tools –
2. Select Options –
3. Click on Spelling and Grammar Tab
4. Click box show readability level
5. Then do spell check from tool bar at the end of the spell check it will show you the reading level
